WASSCE Schedule:Why Private Schools Owners Are Worried
Private Schools Owners across the country have expressed worry over students unpreparedness in the forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) scheduled to commenced on August 17, 2020.
The proprietors stated this in response to the federal government directive that schools should commence academic activities on August, 4, 2020- only for exit classes; including students for WASSCE (SS3) examination.
However, the proprietors under the aegis of Private Schools Owners Association (APSON) advocated for four to six weeks academic revision to allow students adequately prepare for the examination.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Bishop (Dr.) Godly Opukeme and Bishop Elakhe Imoukhede, Chairman and National Director of Administration of the association.
The statement reads: "these candidates have been out of school for over four months, during which time some have abandoned their books and to be engaged in economic activities to assist their parents.
"The students therefore need a minimum of one month to re-acclamatize to school environment.
"We wish to reiterate that to avoid mass failure, the students need between four and six weeks for effective revision as our people are used to the conventional schooling and are yet to to fully come to term with e-learning"
The statement further stated that the association has constituted a national COVID-19 committee ahead of school resumption.
This gesture according to the proprietors, is a move towards ensuring the safety of students and teachers amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
While assuring parents and the government of the committee efforts to ensure that private schools abide by safety protocol, the association indicated that it had connected members to suppliers of PPEs (Personal Protective Equipments).
