COVID-19:NANS Plans Protests Nationwide Over Continued Closure Of Schools

The National Association of Nigerian Students has concluded plans for a nationwide protest, beginning from Abuja, over the continued closure of schools as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic passing across universities, polytechnics and colleges of education by the NANS Senate President, Ibrahim Muhammed Lawal, dated August 14, 2020, revealed the plan.

The memo called on the National Association of University Students, National Association of Polytechnic Students and National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students to take part in the nationwide protest to be flagged off at the Federal Ministry of Education premises in Abuja on August 19, 2020.

Lawal called on the leaders of the students bodies to mobilise students for the protest and make the management of their institutions to release buses for that purpose.

He also indicated that the International Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Police and DSS (Department of State Services) will be fully on ground to ensure that the protest is carried out orderly without any form of violence.

COVID19:FGN releases guidelines for local and int'l travels as airports start reopening

                       Passengers travelling abroad through Nigeria’s airport terminals are required to be at the airport five hours before departure to undergo COVID-19 protocols, the Nigeria Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, has announced. The Minister said this on Saturday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos when he disclosed some of the measures introduced for the reopening of the country’s airports closed in March  due to the COVID-19 outbreak. COVID-19:Students Protest Continued Closure Of High Institutions

      Students of tertiary institutions on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to reopen schools that have been shut down as part of moves to curtail further spread of COVID-19. They argued that schools could not remain shut while markets and worship centres had been re-opened. The students made their position known during a peaceful protest in Abuja. The protest took place both at the Unity Fountain and at the Ministry of Education, both in the Federal Capital Territory. The President of the National Association of University Students, Ejigah Felix, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, lamented the fact that schools have been closed for too long. COVID-19:Presidential Task Force Indicates Decline In Cases

Dr Sani Aliyu,Coordinator of Presidential Task Force (PTF),has said that positive cases of COVID-19 are going down gradually as the recent released figures evolve around 400. He stated this at the daily COVID-19 briefing of the PTF on Monday, August 10 in Abuja. Aliyu , however, warned that the decrease was not in a way a win. He stated that all the non-pharmaceutical guidelines must be followed to achieve complete success in the fight against COVID-19. COVID-19:Ogun Gov.To Refund Test Charges To Parents,Apologizes

         Ogun State Government is to refund money already paid by some parents for COVID-19 tests for their children. The government had earlier made it mandatory for each boarding pupil in private schools to pay N25,000 part payment for the test. Governor Dapo Abiodun, however, cancelled the test on Monday, after opposition and protests. The governor also apologized for the stress that this earlier decision caused affected parents and pupils. The Ogun government had stopped  COVID-19 test as a mandatory requirement for returning students in the exit class in Senior Secondary schools in the state. Gov.   As some states are about to  resume school, the Federal Government of Nigeria said normal procedures should be followed. Any school willing to resume must be cleared and given a go-ahead by their State Government. In the PTF meeting which was held yesterday, September 14th, the minister  of state for education Chukwuemaka Nwajiuba stated that t he Ministry of education would shut down any  school that violates covid-19 protocols.
