COVID-19:NANS Plans Protests Nationwide Over Continued Closure Of Schools

The National Association of Nigerian Students has concluded plans for a nationwide protest, beginning from Abuja, over the continued closure of schools as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic passing across universities, polytechnics and colleges of education by the NANS Senate President, Ibrahim Muhammed Lawal, dated August 14, 2020, revealed the plan.

The memo called on the National Association of University Students, National Association of Polytechnic Students and National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students to take part in the nationwide protest to be flagged off at the Federal Ministry of Education premises in Abuja on August 19, 2020.

Lawal called on the leaders of the students bodies to mobilise students for the protest and make the management of their institutions to release buses for that purpose.

He also indicated that the International Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Police and DSS (Department of State Services) will be fully on ground to ensure that the protest is carried out orderly without any form of violence.

Nigeria is alleged importing dirty fuel dumped on it that cannot be sold to other countries with higher and better implemented standards, a new report by an international resource watchdog group has stated. According to PUNCH, Stakeholder Democracy Network(SDN),said in the report that black-market fuel made from stolen oil in rudimentary “bush” refineries hidden deep in the creeks and swamps of the Niger Delta could be less polluting than the highly toxic diesel and petrol that Europe exports to Nigeria.     The Lagos State Ministry of Education has released school calendar for 2020/2021 session. Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) issued the details in a statement at the weekend. Public and private schools below tertiary level will commence First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020. COVIDV-19: Russia's Vaccine Samples Now in Nigeria

    The Federal Government of Nigeria on Friday disclosed it received an “aide memoire” on the Russia’s COVID-19 newly  developed vaccine.
