COVID-19:The Fatality Rate Has Remained Constant At 2% In Nigeria

Nigeria' MINISTER of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has expressed concern that the fatality rate of COVID-19 has remained constant at 2 per cent with as deaths toll stands at 975 persons in the country.

Ehanire, stated this) yesterday while briefing journalists at the daily Presidential Task Force, PTF, briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja, reaffirmed the federal government will  to continue to strive to lower the case of fatality rate to less than 1 per cent, with the believe that more lives can be saved from COVID-19, with the right practices that have been acquired over the past six months even though not much had been known about COVID-19.

The Minister, however, expressed hope for a stronger response to COVID-19,with a collaborative effort between citizenry and government for the benefit of all Nigerians.

He said the fewer positive cases recorded in the past few days are no reason to relax, or to lower in the efforts towards the fight against the pandemic.

Ehanire added that the government will expand and include small towns and rural areas in the testing scope to have a more accurate picture of the COVID-19 status.

He explained that there is good reason to prepare for COVID-19 spread in rural areas with testing, first aid, ambulance service and commensurate isolation and treatment centres.

Ehanire, however, stated with concern the development in many overseas countries, where there is  sharp upsurge in COVID-19 cases, after they lifted or relaxed restrictions in air travel, commerce and especially in social activities.

"We know that some countries had to quickly restore lockdown or limit movement of citizens and even to postpone elections in order to deal with the COVID-19 spike. In one country, thousands of members of a religious group had to be put in quarantine, having tested positive,” he explained.
