COVID-19:U.S.A. Donates 200 Ventilators To Nigeria

 The Nigeria Government has received 200 ventilators donated to the country by Donald Trump,The US President.

Trump had in a telephone chat with President Muhammadu Buhari on April, 28, 2020, promised to support Nigeria’s response to COVID-19 by sending ventilators.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, while receiving the ventilators on behalf of the Nigerian Government from the United States Agency for International Development at a ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, stated that life had not been the same for Nigerians since the first COVID-19 case was reported in February.

He stated: “This donation consists of 200 ventilators, which, as we all know by now, are a critical component of the response strategy to save the lives of persons who have been severely impacted by this viral infection.

"They will certainly be of great benefit to the people of Nigeria and I wish to convey the appreciation of His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and of the government of Nigeria, to President Donald Trump and the United States Government for the generous consideration and friendly gesture.

"The Federal Ministry of Health, and its public health Agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, have focused on providing guidance to tackle the challenges.

"Our health workers have been trained and equipped and are doing the needful to attend to COVID-19 patients and give emergency care, while not losing sight of routine and essential health services.”

COVID-19:Schools To Resume with Staggered Timetables In Lagos State

     Lagos State primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions will be using staggered timetables and different teaching practices to meet the COVID-19 protocols as directed by the state government. The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had announced that tertiary institutions would resume September 14, with primary and secondary schools tentatively reopening September 21. Commenting on the development, the vice-chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun on Monday, indicated that students of the university would resume in batches from September.         The sum of N1.5bn was spent as COVID-19 relief fund for staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC , Kemebradikumo Pondei, Acting Managing Director of the commission, said. Pondei revealed this at the investigative hearing on the N40bn corruption allegation against the commission. The Senate had on May 5 set up a seven-man ad-hoc committee to investigate the financial mismanagement of the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC. The WHO stressed that strict measures should be observed to prevent surges in Corona virus infections.
