COVID-19:U.S.A. Donates 200 Ventilators To Nigeria

 The Nigeria Government has received 200 ventilators donated to the country by Donald Trump,The US President.

Trump had in a telephone chat with President Muhammadu Buhari on April, 28, 2020, promised to support Nigeria’s response to COVID-19 by sending ventilators.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, while receiving the ventilators on behalf of the Nigerian Government from the United States Agency for International Development at a ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, stated that life had not been the same for Nigerians since the first COVID-19 case was reported in February.

He stated: “This donation consists of 200 ventilators, which, as we all know by now, are a critical component of the response strategy to save the lives of persons who have been severely impacted by this viral infection.

"They will certainly be of great benefit to the people of Nigeria and I wish to convey the appreciation of His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and of the government of Nigeria, to President Donald Trump and the United States Government for the generous consideration and friendly gesture.

"The Federal Ministry of Health, and its public health Agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, have focused on providing guidance to tackle the challenges.

"Our health workers have been trained and equipped and are doing the needful to attend to COVID-19 patients and give emergency care, while not losing sight of routine and essential health services.”

COVID-19:WHO Urges Safety As African Airlines Resume Flights

                     The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for caution as African airlines resume operations in various countries. The WHO stressed that strict measures should be observed to prevent surges in Corona virus infections. The organisation asked governments to ensure airlines collect the information of passengers travelling and follow up with them to prevent outbreaks. The WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr. Matshidiso Moeti indicated air travel was important for the economy but the current situation still requires stringent measures to stem the spread of Covid-19. COVID-19:Lagos State Education Ministry Disowns School Calendar Out

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has distanced itself from an academic calendar stating school reopening in the state. The ministry’s Education Quality Assurance, OEQA, unit called on inhabitants of the state to disregard the resumption time table circulating on social media. The purported 2020/2021 academic calendar, indicates that the first term of the session would start September 21, 2020 and end December 18, 2020. The academic calendar also indicated that  January 11, 2021 and May 3, 2021, as the commencement dates for the second term. Reacting, the Public Affairs Officer, OEQA, Mr. Emmanuel Olaniran, stated that the timetable did not emanate from the ministry. Ahead of the resumption of activities in both public and private schools, Lagos State Government on Sunday released a new academic structure adopted in the state after the lockdown of schools occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.           The Ogun State Government has announced Monday, September 21, 2020, the date for reopening of schools in the state for the first term of 2020/2021 session. The government, however, staggered the resumption and closing times for primary and secondary schools, while colleges and tertiary institutions keep full normal hours. The government said this on Monday in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Kunle Somorin.
