COVID-19:Pdt BUHARI Oders For Compulsory Wearing Of Face Masks Nationwide

  President Muhammadu Buhari has directed state governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to enforce the compulsory wearing of face masks in public places nationwide.

This was announced by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task force on COVID-19.

Boss Mustapha was addressing journalists during Thursday’s PTF briefing.

According to him, “President Buhari also asked the PTF to partner with states and local governments to improve community sensitisation and engagement to step up response to the COVID-19 response.

"He has also encouraged state governments to collaborate with local government authorities to intensify necessary measures such as contact tracing, grassroots mobilisation and risk communication.

"He also ordered that collaboration with other mandate groups at federal/state levels to harmonise the country’s COVID-19 response be strengthened on the short, medium and long-term basis.”

          The Ogun State Government has announced Monday, September 21, 2020, the date for reopening of schools in the state for the first term of 2020/2021 session. The government, however, staggered the resumption and closing times for primary and secondary schools, while colleges and tertiary institutions keep full normal hours.         The World Health Organization, WHO, regional office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, has disclosed countries with the highest COVID-19 death cases in the continent. Africa has recorded 11,052 deaths linked to complications arising from COVID-19. According to the latest figure released by WHO, the number of COVID-19 cases in Africa has risen to 461,203 in the last 24 hours. Africa has also reported more than 222,000 recoveries from COVID-19 infections. As on Sunday, Egypt has 3,280 reported deaths, the highest number on the continent, followed by South Africa with 3,026 casualties and Algeria with 946 deaths. Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria, has reported 634 deaths.
