COVID-19:Pdt BUHARI Oders For Compulsory Wearing Of Face Masks Nationwide

  President Muhammadu Buhari has directed state governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to enforce the compulsory wearing of face masks in public places nationwide.

This was announced by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task force on COVID-19.

Boss Mustapha was addressing journalists during Thursday’s PTF briefing.

According to him, “President Buhari also asked the PTF to partner with states and local governments to improve community sensitisation and engagement to step up response to the COVID-19 response.

"He has also encouraged state governments to collaborate with local government authorities to intensify necessary measures such as contact tracing, grassroots mobilisation and risk communication.

"He also ordered that collaboration with other mandate groups at federal/state levels to harmonise the country’s COVID-19 response be strengthened on the short, medium and long-term basis.”

COVID-19:Students Protest Continued Closure Of High Institutions

      Students of tertiary institutions on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to reopen schools that have been shut down as part of moves to curtail further spread of COVID-19. They argued that schools could not remain shut while markets and worship centres had been re-opened. The students made their position known during a peaceful protest in Abuja. The protest took place both at the Unity Fountain and at the Ministry of Education, both in the Federal Capital Territory. The President of the National Association of University Students, Ejigah Felix, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, lamented the fact that schools have been closed for too long.          Ogun State Government is to refund money already paid by some parents for COVID-19 tests for their children. The government had earlier made it mandatory for each boarding pupil in private schools to pay N25,000 part payment for the test. Governor Dapo Abiodun, however, cancelled the test on Monday, after opposition and protests. The governor also apologized for the stress that this earlier decision caused affected parents and pupils.   As some states are about to  resume school, the Federal Government of Nigeria said normal procedures should be followed. Any school willing to resume must be cleared and given a go-ahead by their State Government. In the PTF meeting which was held yesterday, September 14th, the minister  of state for education Chukwuemaka Nwajiuba stated that t he Ministry of education would shut down any  school that violates covid-19 protocols.
