COVID-19:Lagos Government To Promote Students Using Continuous Assessment

The Lagos State Government has said it will promote students in state-owned schools to the next classes based on their continuous assessments performance.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, revealed this at interview on Channels Television on Thursday.

Adefisayo also indicated that there was still no definite date for the full reopening of schools.

“(For) the reopening (of schools), we are working with the Federal Government. So I cannot unilaterally say that we are doing this or that, but we are planning.

“There are two scenarios. If we don’t have a third term, it means that we have to push the next session to next year.

"But if the students do not do the third term examination, they will use their CA (continuous assessment),” she stated.

WHO Releases Names Of Countries With Highest Number Of Death Due To COVID-19,In Africa

        The World Health Organization, WHO, regional office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, has disclosed countries with the highest COVID-19 death cases in the continent. Africa has recorded 11,052 deaths linked to complications arising from COVID-19. According to the latest figure released by WHO, the number of COVID-19 cases in Africa has risen to 461,203 in the last 24 hours. Africa has also reported more than 222,000 recoveries from COVID-19 infections. As on Sunday, Egypt has 3,280 reported deaths, the highest number on the continent, followed by South Africa with 3,026 casualties and Algeria with 946 deaths. Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria, has reported 634 deaths. Other countries on the list include Sudan (608 deaths), Cameroon (313 deaths), Morocco (232 deaths), DR Congo (181 deaths), Kenya (159 deaths), Mauritania (129 deaths), Senegal (129 deaths), Mali (118 deaths) and Ghana (117 deaths).

Nigeria is alleged importing dirty fuel dumped on it that cannot be sold to other countries with higher and better implemented standards, a new report by an international resource watchdog group has stated. According to PUNCH, Stakeholder Democracy Network(SDN),said in the report that black-market fuel made from stolen oil in rudimentary “bush” refineries hidden deep in the creeks and swamps of the Niger Delta could be less polluting than the highly toxic diesel and petrol that Europe exports to Nigeria.
