COVID-19:Lagos State House Visits Schools For Safety Protocols Assessment

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education have paid a working visit to schools under Education District II to ascertain the level of compliance to COVID-19 protocols ahead of full resumption as directed by the State Government.

The Committee Chairman, Mr. Yinka Ogundimu, who led the team on Wednesday September 9, 2020, expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness by the schools under the Education District.

He congratulated the various schools visited for meeting all the requirements needed for reopening.

He also seized the opportunity to check on the students writing the WASSCE Examination to urge them to put in their best as well as strive for excellent performance.

The Committee also commended the District’s Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Anike Adekanye for her relentless efforts at raising schools standard within the District.

“The commitment of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, towards the development of the educational sector motivated me and other staff in the district,” Mrs. Adekanye stated.

She also thanked all members of the House of Assembly Committee on Education for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit the educational district as part of efforts to ensure that students and officers return in a safe environment.

The schools visited include Oriwu Senior Model College Ikorodu; Civil Service Senior and Junior Model College, Ikorodu; Mende Senior and Junior High School, Maryland.

Others are Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Senior and Junior High School, Odogunyan; Junior High School, Ikorodu and Senior High School, Ikorodu, among others.

COVID-19:Pdt BUHARI Oders For Compulsory Wearing Of Face Masks Nationwide

     President Muhammadu Buhari has directed state governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to enforce the compulsory wearing of face masks in public places nationwide. This was announced by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task force on COVID-19. Boss Mustapha was addressing journalists during Thursday’s PTF briefing. According to him, “President Buhari also asked the PTF to partner with states and local governments to improve community sensitisation and engagement to step up response to the COVID-19 response. COVID-19:UN Calls On Nigerian Government To Ensure Safety Protocols Ahead Of School Resumption

              The United Nations has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure that safety protocols against the spread of COVID-19 are in place before full reopening of schools. The global agency stated that about 46 million primary and secondary learners across Nigeria are affected due to pandemic-related school closures. The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Edward Kallon, stated this in a release he issued on Monday in commemoration of the World International Day to Protect Education from Attack. COVID-19:FGN Says Any School Caught Violating Safety Protocols As They Resume Will be shut down

  As some states are about to  resume school, the Federal Government of Nigeria said normal procedures should be followed. Any school willing to resume must be cleared and given a go-ahead by their State Government. In the PTF meeting which was held yesterday, September 14th, the minister  of state for education Chukwuemaka Nwajiuba stated that t he Ministry of education would shut down any  school that violates covid-19 protocols. Any school that plans to resume must first make sure all covid 19 containment measures are put in place for safe reopening for their student. Schools Reopening:Lagos State Approves 20/21 Academic Calendar

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has released school calendar for 2020/2021 session. Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) issued the details in a statement at the weekend. Public and private schools below tertiary level will commence First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020. The Second Term begins on Monday 4th January, 2020 and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while students will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021.       The World Health Organization (WHO)  has stated conditions for prequalification approval of the Russian vaccine . According to the WHO, scientists need to tho roughly review and assess   the required safety and efficacy data  before taking any decision on the vaccine. This announcement was released by a WHO spokesman, Tarik Jasarevic, during the United Nations briefing in Geneva about clinical trials.
