COVID-19:Lagos State House Visits Schools For Safety Protocols Assessment

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education have paid a working visit to schools under Education District II to ascertain the level of compliance to COVID-19 protocols ahead of full resumption as directed by the State Government.

The Committee Chairman, Mr. Yinka Ogundimu, who led the team on Wednesday September 9, 2020, expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness by the schools under the Education District.

He congratulated the various schools visited for meeting all the requirements needed for reopening.

He also seized the opportunity to check on the students writing the WASSCE Examination to urge them to put in their best as well as strive for excellent performance.

The Committee also commended the District’s Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Anike Adekanye for her relentless efforts at raising schools standard within the District.

“The commitment of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, towards the development of the educational sector motivated me and other staff in the district,” Mrs. Adekanye stated.

She also thanked all members of the House of Assembly Committee on Education for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit the educational district as part of efforts to ensure that students and officers return in a safe environment.

The schools visited include Oriwu Senior Model College Ikorodu; Civil Service Senior and Junior Model College, Ikorodu; Mende Senior and Junior High School, Maryland.

Others are Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Senior and Junior High School, Odogunyan; Junior High School, Ikorodu and Senior High School, Ikorodu, among others.

COVID-19:UN Calls On Nigerian Government To Ensure Safety Protocols Ahead Of School Resumption

              The United Nations has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure that safety protocols against the spread of COVID-19 are in place before full reopening of schools. The global agency stated that about 46 million primary and secondary learners across Nigeria are affected due to pandemic-related school closures. Schools Reopening:Lagos State Approves 20/21 Academic Calendar

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has released school calendar for 2020/2021 session. Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) issued the details in a statement at the weekend. Public and private schools below tertiary level will commence First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020. The Second Term begins on Monday 4th January, 2020 and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while students will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021. Sanwo-Olu Approves Full Reopening Of Churches,Mosques

  The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the full reopening of worship centres in the state. He made the announcement during a briefing in Lagos on Saturday. The governor indicated that mosques can hold their prayers five times daily while churches are also allowed to commence weekly services. The governor had on Friday, August 7 permitted mosques and churches to commence their Friday and Sunday services only. Ogun State To Reopen Schools Sept 21,To Adopt Staggered Timetables

          The Ogun State Government has announced Monday, September 21, 2020, the date for reopening of schools in the state for the first term of 2020/2021 session. The government, however, staggered the resumption and closing times for primary and secondary schools, while colleges and tertiary institutions keep full normal hours. The government said this on Monday in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Kunle Somorin.
