COVID-19:Kogi,Osun States Announce School Resumption Dates

Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, has announced that schools in the State will fully resume September 14, 2020.This includes all primary and secondary schools,as well as tertiary institutions. This announcement came after the one made by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu,who ordered that all Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State should resume by 14th of September, 2020, and that primary and secondary schools should resume on 21st of the same month.

The information was released on Monday by the State Commissioner for Education, Honorable Wemi Jones, FCIB, during a press briefing in Lokoja.

When announcing this, Kogi State Government has indicated that all schools in the State should resume on September 14, 2020; and this includes primary and secondary ,as well as tertiary institutions.

Osun State,  and Kogi State are respectively second and third in the list of States having announced schools reopening.

It should be recalled that Lagos was the first State to signify their commitment to see full restoration of school activities disrupted by the COVID-29 outbreak.

It is expected that all other States will take more initiatives very soon in order to restore the education activities nationwide.

No Time Frame Yet For Schools Reopening ,Says FGN

       The Federal government of Nigeria has said that there's no time frame yet to reopen the schools in Nigeria, indicating that the school could only be reopened when it is safe to do so. This position was expressed by the state Minister of Education, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba during a live NTA interactive meeting held on Tuesday night, 10.30 pm. The programme was hosted by the popular NTA journalist, Omini Ode, and consists of the honourable minister of State Education, Director General of National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Commissioner of Education in Enugu, Pro.           The Ogun State Government has announced Monday, September 21, 2020, the date for reopening of schools in the state for the first term of 2020/2021 session. The government, however, staggered the resumption and closing times for primary and secondary schools, while colleges and tertiary institutions keep full normal hours. The government said this on Monday in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Kunle Somorin. The government indicated that early child care development and education classes from three to five years of age are not  resuming yet in public schools until the next phase of school reopening. Schools Reopening:Lagos State Approves 20/21 Academic Calendar

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has released school calendar for 2020/2021 session. Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) issued the details in a statement at the weekend. Public and private schools below tertiary level will commence First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020. The Second Term begins on Monday 4th January, 2020 and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while students will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021.       The Ogun  state government,Nigeria, has announced that all students had been given automatic promotion to the next class, including automatic enrollment for primary 6 students in public primary schools into JSS1 of public secondary schools.  New students who are resuming for the first time after the nationwide closure in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will join students in SS3 who are now writing the West African School Certificate Examination. The students will be joining in their new classes for the first term of 2020/2021 academic session. Meanwhile, early Child Care Development and Education classes, comprising pupils of 3-5 years, will not resume yet in public schools until the next phase of schools’ reopening.
