COVID-19:Kogi,Osun States Announce School Resumption Dates

Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, has announced that schools in the State will fully resume September 14, 2020.This includes all primary and secondary schools,as well as tertiary institutions. This announcement came after the one made by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu,who ordered that all Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State should resume by 14th of September, 2020, and that primary and secondary schools should resume on 21st of the same month.

The information was released on Monday by the State Commissioner for Education, Honorable Wemi Jones, FCIB, during a press briefing in Lokoja.

When announcing this, Kogi State Government has indicated that all schools in the State should resume on September 14, 2020; and this includes primary and secondary ,as well as tertiary institutions.

Osun State,  and Kogi State are respectively second and third in the list of States having announced schools reopening.

It should be recalled that Lagos was the first State to signify their commitment to see full restoration of school activities disrupted by the COVID-29 outbreak.

It is expected that all other States will take more initiatives very soon in order to restore the education activities nationwide.

COVID-19:FGN reopens doors for schools running international curriculum

               The federal government of Nigeria -FGN- has has given schools using international curriculum the go-ahead to continue third term in order to complete their school session and write their exams online. This is part of measures aim at easing the lockdown imposed in the country to keep the spread of corona virus pandemic under control. The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Chukwumeka Nwajiuba, who revealed this in Abuja while fielding questions from journalists at the daily press briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19, said this has become necessary as there were private schools licenced to run foreign curriculum especially for children of expatriates and diplomats.              Sanwo-Olu,the Lagos State Governor, while giving a live press briefing on Covid-19,on Saturday,announced that the worship centres will resume their activities with effect from August ,7, 2020.      Lagos State primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions will be using staggered timetables and different teaching practices to meet the COVID-19 protocols as directed by the state government. The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had announced that tertiary institutions would resume September 14, with primary and secondary schools tentatively reopening September 21. COVID-19:Lagos State Education Ministry Disowns School Calendar Out

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has distanced itself from an academic calendar stating school reopening in the state. The ministry’s Education Quality Assurance, OEQA, unit called on inhabitants of the state to disregard the resumption time table circulating on social media. The purported 2020/2021 academic calendar, indicates that the first term of the session would start September 21, 2020 and end December 18, 2020. The academic calendar also indicated that  January 11, 2021 and May 3, 2021, as the commencement dates for the second term.
