COVID-19:Kogi,Osun States Announce School Resumption Dates

Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, has announced that schools in the State will fully resume September 14, 2020.This includes all primary and secondary schools,as well as tertiary institutions. This announcement came after the one made by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu,who ordered that all Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State should resume by 14th of September, 2020, and that primary and secondary schools should resume on 21st of the same month.

The information was released on Monday by the State Commissioner for Education, Honorable Wemi Jones, FCIB, during a press briefing in Lokoja.

When announcing this, Kogi State Government has indicated that all schools in the State should resume on September 14, 2020; and this includes primary and secondary ,as well as tertiary institutions.

Osun State,  and Kogi State are respectively second and third in the list of States having announced schools reopening.

It should be recalled that Lagos was the first State to signify their commitment to see full restoration of school activities disrupted by the COVID-29 outbreak.

It is expected that all other States will take more initiatives very soon in order to restore the education activities nationwide.

COVID-19:UN Calls On Nigerian Government To Ensure Safety Protocols Ahead Of School Resumption

              The United Nations has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure that safety protocols against the spread of COVID-19 are in place before full reopening of schools. The global agency stated that about 46 million primary and secondary learners across Nigeria are affected due to pandemic-related school closures. Schools Reopening:Lagos State Approves 20/21 Academic Calendar

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has released school calendar for 2020/2021 session. Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) issued the details in a statement at the weekend. Public and private schools below tertiary level will commence First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020. The Second Term begins on Monday 4th January, 2020 and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while students will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021. Sanwo-Olu Approves Full Reopening Of Churches,Mosques

  The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the full reopening of worship centres in the state. He made the announcement during a briefing in Lagos on Saturday. The governor indicated that mosques can hold their prayers five times daily while churches are also allowed to commence weekly services. The governor had on Friday, August 7 permitted mosques and churches to commence their Friday and Sunday services only.           The Ogun State Government has announced Monday, September 21, 2020, the date for reopening of schools in the state for the first term of 2020/2021 session. The government, however, staggered the resumption and closing times for primary and secondary schools, while colleges and tertiary institutions keep full normal hours. The government said this on Monday in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Kunle Somorin.        The Federal Government of Nigeria says state governments and school administrators should start making preparations for the full resumption of school in the country.
