COVID-19:Reps Disagree with FGN's Position On Cancelation Of WASSCE

Good news to teachers, students as House of Reps asks federal government to reconsider its latest decision on cance -llation of WASSCE

It's been 4 months now since all schools in Nigeria have been shut down due to the widespread of COVID-19 in the country. 
Many private school teachers as well as all the pupils/students in the whole country have been at home.
The Private school teachers are hard hit and are suffering this the more,for they have been staying at home idle with little or no means forsurviving.
Just recently Government announced to reopen school. Everybody was relieved by the latest update, but the happiness was cut-short after it was announced again that Federal government has reversed the decision to resume
       

Yesterday July 10, a member of committee on Basic Education and Services, Honourable Julius Ihonvbere issued warning to Federal Government to reconsider its decision on cancellation of WASSCE examinations 2020.
He said it is not the right decision for the country, that It will create confusion in the educational section, and a disappointment and frustration for Nigerian students, and even parents who would not want to delay or terminate the progress of their children
The Minister's decision to reverse resu -mption was taken without consulting  all the state governments that are in charge of the Unity Secondary Schools owned by the Federal Government.
He argues that instead of reversing their decision to open school, the ministry of Science and Technology and Ministries of Environment should work out an agen -da together to fumigate all the classrooms, provide hand washing Sanitizer and face masks for the students and teachers. 
Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom State Government is planning to resume school according to the state Commissioner for Information, Charles Udoh who made it known on Friday 10 July, that parents should provide face masks for their children as school resu -mption would be announced soon.
Further, Honourable Julius Ihonvbere has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to direct all his minister to return to their various state, work with their governors to adopt and implement smooth policy for a safe conduct of the examination.
This is a soothing news to all teachers and schools owners,in the private sector  especially,as well as students  and parents who are  worried over the matter.

Ogun State To Reopen Schools Sept 21,To Adopt Staggered Timetables

          The Ogun State Government has announced Monday, September 21, 2020, the date for reopening of schools in the state for the first term of 2020/2021 session. The government, however, staggered the resumption and closing times for primary and secondary schools, while colleges and tertiary institutions keep full normal hours. The government said this on Monday in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Kunle Somorin. The government indicated that early child care development and education classes from three to five years of age are not  resuming yet in public schools until the next phase of school reopening. Schools Reopening:Lagos State Approves 20/21 Academic Calendar

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has released school calendar for 2020/2021 session. Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) issued the details in a statement at the weekend. Public and private schools below tertiary level will commence First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020. The Second Term begins on Monday 4th January, 2020 and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while students will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021. Director-General, OEQA, Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, urged school leaders to adopt a qualitative health and safety plan that will help protect students, teachers and workers. Schools Reopening:Ogun State Grants Automatic Promotion To All Students

      The Ogun  state government,Nigeria, has announced that all students had been given automatic promotion to the next class, including automatic enrollment for primary 6 students in public primary schools into JSS1 of public secondary schools.  New students who are resuming for the first time after the nationwide closure in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will join students in SS3 who are now writing the West African School Certificate Examination. The students will be joining in their new classes for the first term of 2020/2021 academic session. Meanwhile, early Child Care Development and Education classes, comprising pupils of 3-5 years, will not resume yet in public schools until the next phase of schools’ reopening.
