WHO Releases Names Of Countries With Highest Number Of Death Due To COVID-19,In Africa

        The World Health Organization, WHO, regional office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, has disclosed countries with the highest COVID-19 death cases in the continent. Africa has recorded 11,052 deaths linked to complications arising from COVID-19. According to the latest figure released by WHO, the number of COVID-19 cases in Africa has risen to 461,203 in the last 24 hours. Africa has also reported more than 222,000 recoveries from COVID-19 infections. As on Sunday, Egypt has 3,280 reported deaths, the highest number on the continent, followed by South Africa with 3,026 casualties and Algeria with 946 deaths. Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria, has reported 634 deaths. Other countries on the list include Sudan (608 deaths), Cameroon (313 deaths), Morocco (232 deaths), DR Congo (181 deaths), Kenya (159 deaths), Mauritania (129 deaths), Senegal (129 deaths), Mali (118 deaths) and Ghana (117 deaths).

Ogun State To Reopen Schools Sept 21,To Adopt Staggered Timetables

          The Ogun State Government has announced Monday, September 21, 2020, the date for reopening of schools in the state for the first term of 2020/2021 session. The government, however, staggered the resumption and closing times for primary and secondary schools, while colleges and tertiary institutions keep full normal hours. The government said this on Monday in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Kunle Somorin. The government indicated that early child care development and education classes from three to five years of age are not  resuming yet in public schools until the next phase of school reopening.                      The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for caution as African airlines resume operations in various countries. The WHO stressed that strict measures should be observed to prevent surges in Corona virus infections. The organisation asked governments to ensure airlines collect the information of passengers travelling and follow up with them to prevent outbreaks. The WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr. Matshidiso Moeti indicated air travel was important for the economy but the current situation still requires stringent measures to stem the spread of Covid-19. COVID-19:FGN Announces Resumption Of Int'l Flights From August,29

        The Nigeria minister of aviation on Monday said that int'l flights will resume August, 29. He announced this at the media briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. The country’s airspace was shut to non-essential flights in March in a move to control the spread of the coronavirus disease.  Domestic flights resumed in July with many people also clamouring for the resumption of international flights.
