FGN speaks on school resumption

The Federal Government of Nigeria - FGN -announced on monday that, final year students preparing for the West African Examination Council, Senior Secondary School Examination, National Exam in at iron Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB examinations, would soon be allowed to resume for revisions.
Minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemaka Nwajiuba, stated this while answering questions from journalists, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
He further advised the various state governments, not to rush  into reopening of schools in their states, because of the  continued increase in the  cases of the COVID-19 in the country.
He urged them not to be pushed to reopen schools, because of pressure from some children and parents.
We recall that because of the corona virus disease in the country, the Federal Government ordered the close down of all schools in the country, to curb the spread of the disease.
This is coming as a sign of relief to final year students, who are preparing for their examinations, as they have been hoping for the reopening of schools.
It is further expected that, other students will follow in a similar manner, with measures being put in place to keep on check, the spread of the disease.

Schools Reopening:Ogun State Grants Automatic Promotion To All Students

      The Ogun  state government,Nigeria, has announced that all students had been given automatic promotion to the next class, including automatic enrollment for primary 6 students in public primary schools into JSS1 of public secondary schools.  New students who are resuming for the first time after the nationwide closure in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will join students in SS3 who are now writing the West African School Certificate Examination. The students will be joining in their new classes for the first term of 2020/2021 academic session. Meanwhile, early Child Care Development and Education classes, comprising pupils of 3-5 years, will not resume yet in public schools until the next phase of schools’ reopening. COVID-19:Lagos Government To Promote Students Using Continuous Assessment

     The Lagos State Government has said it will promote students in state-owned schools to the next classes based on their continuous assessments performance. The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, revealed this at interview on Channels Television on Thursday. Adefisayo also indicated that there was still no definite date for the full reopening of schools. “(For) the reopening (of schools), we are working with the Federal Government. So I cannot unilaterally say that we are doing this or that, but we are planning. “There are two scenarios. If we don’t have a third term, it means that we have to push the next session to next year. FGN Approves Full Reopening Of Schools As PhaseIII Of Eased Lockdown Begins

       The Federal Government of Nigeria says state governments and school administrators should start making preparations for the full resumption of school in the country. Remember  that schools in the country were shut in March as part of measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus disease. COVID-19:FGN And UNICEF Start Process Of Reopening Schools

     The Federal Ministry of Education in conjunction with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, Committee on Safe School Re-opening, on Monday, started a process for the development of school reopening readiness template. Azuka Menkiti, Education Specialist, UNICEF, made this known in Kaduna, at the opening of a three-day technical seminar of the Committee on Safe School Re-opening. She stated this is to guide the re-opening of schools across the country. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was organised by the Federal Ministry of Education, with support from UNICEF, to put measures in place for safe re-opening of schools.
