FGN speaks on school resumption

The Federal Government of Nigeria - FGN -announced on monday that, final year students preparing for the West African Examination Council, Senior Secondary School Examination, National Exam in at iron Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB examinations, would soon be allowed to resume for revisions.
Minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemaka Nwajiuba, stated this while answering questions from journalists, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
He further advised the various state governments, not to rush  into reopening of schools in their states, because of the  continued increase in the  cases of the COVID-19 in the country.
He urged them not to be pushed to reopen schools, because of pressure from some children and parents.
We recall that because of the corona virus disease in the country, the Federal Government ordered the close down of all schools in the country, to curb the spread of the disease.
This is coming as a sign of relief to final year students, who are preparing for their examinations, as they have been hoping for the reopening of schools.
It is further expected that, other students will follow in a similar manner, with measures being put in place to keep on check, the spread of the disease.

Sanwo-Olu Approves Full Reopening Of Churches,Mosques

  The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the full reopening of worship centres in the state. He made the announcement during a briefing in Lagos on Saturday. The governor indicated that mosques can hold their prayers five times daily while churches are also allowed to commence weekly services. The governor had on Friday, August 7 permitted mosques and churches to commence their Friday and Sunday services only. He, however, warned that the safety protocols released by the government must be strictly observed. COVID-19:Presidential Task Force Indicates Decline In Cases

Dr Sani Aliyu,Coordinator of Presidential Task Force (PTF),has said that positive cases of COVID-19 are going down gradually as the recent released figures evolve around 400. He stated this at the daily COVID-19 briefing of the PTF on Monday, August 10 in Abuja. Aliyu , however, warned that the decrease was not in a way a win. He stated that all the non-pharmaceutical guidelines must be followed to achieve complete success in the fight against COVID-19.               The United Nations has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure that safety protocols against the spread of COVID-19 are in place before full reopening of schools. The global agency stated that about 46 million primary and secondary learners across Nigeria are affected due to pandemic-related school closures. FGN Agrees To Pay Owed Private Schools Teachers Salaries

      The Federal Government Of Nigeria -FGN- has agreed to pay the salaries of private school teachers whom are being owed by their school’s manag -ement since the lockdown began in March. This was contained in a statement signed by the President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS, Yomi Otubela. Otubela disclosed that the association forwarded a proposal to the Economic Sustainability Committee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, for the government to pay the salaries of the private school teachers. He indicated that an approval has been granted to the proposal by the Federal Executive Council.   The National Agency for the Control of AIDS indicates an estimated 51,000 persons living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria has died in the first two quarters of 2020.
