FGN speaks on school resumption

The Federal Government of Nigeria - FGN -announced on monday that, final year students preparing for the West African Examination Council, Senior Secondary School Examination, National Exam in at iron Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB examinations, would soon be allowed to resume for revisions.
Minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemaka Nwajiuba, stated this while answering questions from journalists, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
He further advised the various state governments, not to rush  into reopening of schools in their states, because of the  continued increase in the  cases of the COVID-19 in the country.
He urged them not to be pushed to reopen schools, because of pressure from some children and parents.
We recall that because of the corona virus disease in the country, the Federal Government ordered the close down of all schools in the country, to curb the spread of the disease.
This is coming as a sign of relief to final year students, who are preparing for their examinations, as they have been hoping for the reopening of schools.
It is further expected that, other students will follow in a similar manner, with measures being put in place to keep on check, the spread of the disease.

Schools Reopening:Lagos State Approves 20/21 Academic Calendar

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has released school calendar for 2020/2021 session. Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) issued the details in a statement at the weekend. Public and private schools below tertiary level will commence First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020. The Second Term begins on Monday 4th January, 2020 and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while students will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021. COVID-19:Kogi,Osun States Announce School Resumption Dates

       Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, has announced that schools in the State will fully resume September 14, 2020.This includes all primary and secondary schools,as well as tertiary institutions. This announcement came after the one made by the Lagos State G overnor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu,who ordered that all Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State should resume by 14th of September, 2020, and that primary and secondary schools should resume on 21st of the same month.   As some states are about to  resume school, the Federal Government of Nigeria said normal procedures should be followed. Any school willing to resume must be cleared and given a go-ahead by their State Government. In the PTF meeting which was held yesterday, September 14th, the minister  of state for education Chukwuemaka Nwajiuba stated that t he Ministry of education would shut down any  school that violates covid-19 protocols. Any school that plans to resume must first make sure all covid 19 containment measures are put in place for safe reopening for their student. Sanwo-Olu Approves Full Reopening Of Churches,Mosques

  The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the full reopening of worship centres in the state. He made the announcement during a briefing in Lagos on Saturday. The governor indicated that mosques can hold their prayers five times daily while churches are also allowed to commence weekly services. The governor had on Friday, August 7 permitted mosques and churches to commence their Friday and Sunday services only. Ogun State To Reopen Schools Sept 21,To Adopt Staggered Timetables

          The Ogun State Government has announced Monday, September 21, 2020, the date for reopening of schools in the state for the first term of 2020/2021 session. The government, however, staggered the resumption and closing times for primary and secondary schools, while colleges and tertiary institutions keep full normal hours. The government said this on Monday in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Kunle Somorin. The government indicated that early child care development and education classes from three to five years of age are not  resuming yet in public schools until the next phase of school reopening.
