FGN Approves Full Reopening Of Schools As PhaseIII Of Eased Lockdown Begins

By

The Federal Government of Nigeria says state governments and school administrators should start making preparations for the full resumption of school in the country.

Remember that schools in the country were shut in March as part of measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus disease.

However, the FGN ordered the resumption only for graduating pupils effective August 4, 2020, to write this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination from August 17, 2020, through September 12, 2020.

Speaking on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, during a briefing at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, indicated that the task force recommends phased return of students to classrooms.

Aliyu stated: “For educational institutions which include daycare, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. Educational institutions should begin the process of working towards potentially reopening within this phase.

“However, we strongly recommend that states conduct risk assessment to ensure all schools are at a level of compliance and create a monitoring mechanism to assess, create, and monitor this level of preparedness.

“Meanwhile, all daycares and educational institutions are to remain closed to in-classes until this level of risk is assessed. And if there will be opening of schools, it must be staged and preferably carried out in phases to ensure that this does not pose a risk to the general public and in particular to vulnerable groups that might end up getting infected by students going back home",He said.

COVID-19:Students Protest Continued Closure Of High Institutions

By

Students of tertiary institutions on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to reopen schools that have been shut down as part of moves to curtail further spread of COVID-19. They argued that schools could not remain shut while markets and worship centres had been re-opened. The students made their position known during a peaceful protest in Abuja. The protest took place both at the Unity Fountain and at the Ministry of Education, both in the Federal Capital Territory. The President of the National Association of University Students, Ejigah Felix, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, lamented the fact that schools have been closed for too long. He said it was wrong for political campaigns to be allowed while schools remained closed. He wondered how could they close their universities, polytechnics and other academic institutions and  be  telling people that they want to stop the virus. Ejigah  said:“our demands are that our schools should be reopene...

See the foods better to buy frozen than fresh

By

Berries Raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries are sweet summer treats. But they can quickly turn moldy even when in the supermarket. Buy them frozen and you can lock in the nutrients and enjoy them in season or not. Eat them direct out of the freezer,or unfreeze before baking them  into cobblers, muffins, or pies. Pro tip: add an extra dash of starch or other thickener to soak up the juices Spring Peas These sweet pods have a very short season. That’s the reason almost all shelled peas are sold frozen. That’s not necessarily bad. The frozen ones just might have  more  nutrients. That’s because fresh produce start loosing vitamins and minerals within hours or days. The frozen stuff is often picked, prepared, and packaged when it’s at its nutritious peak.   Fish Freezing methods have come a long way from the days of friendly fish sticks. Fish catcher usually flash freeze their haul right on the boat at 40 degrees below zero. The temperature locks in the fis...
