FGN Approves Full Reopening Of Schools As PhaseIII Of Eased Lockdown Begins

The Federal Government of Nigeria says state governments and school administrators should start making preparations for the full resumption of school in the country.

Remember that schools in the country were shut in March as part of measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus disease.

However, the FGN ordered the resumption only for graduating pupils effective August 4, 2020, to write this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination from August 17, 2020, through September 12, 2020.

Speaking on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, during a briefing at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, indicated that the task force recommends phased return of students to classrooms.

Aliyu stated: “For educational institutions which include daycare, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. Educational institutions should begin the process of working towards potentially reopening within this phase.

“However, we strongly recommend that states conduct risk assessment to ensure all schools are at a level of compliance and create a monitoring mechanism to assess, create, and monitor this level of preparedness.

“Meanwhile, all daycares and educational institutions are to remain closed to in-classes until this level of risk is assessed. And if there will be opening of schools, it must be staged and preferably carried out in phases to ensure that this does not pose a risk to the general public and in particular to vulnerable groups that might end up getting infected by students going back home",He said.

Schools Reopening:Lagos State Approves 20/21 Academic Calendar

    The Lagos State Ministry of Education has released school calendar for 2020/2021 session. Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) issued the details in a statement at the weekend. Public and private schools below tertiary level will commence First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020. The Second Term begins on Monday 4th January, 2020 and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while students will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021.        Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, has announced that schools in the State will fully resume September 14, 2020.This includes all primary and secondary schools,as well as tertiary institutions.                The federal government of Nigeria -FGN- has has given schools using international curriculum the go-ahead to continue third term in order to complete their school session and write their exams online. Sanwo-Olu Approves Full Reopening Of Churches,Mosques

  The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the full reopening of worship centres in the state. He made the announcement during a briefing in Lagos on Saturday. The governor indicated that mosques can hold their prayers five times daily while churches are also allowed to commence weekly services.
