FGN Approves Full Reopening Of Schools As PhaseIII Of Eased Lockdown Begins

The Federal Government of Nigeria says state governments and school administrators should start making preparations for the full resumption of school in the country.

Remember that schools in the country were shut in March as part of measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus disease.

However, the FGN ordered the resumption only for graduating pupils effective August 4, 2020, to write this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination from August 17, 2020, through September 12, 2020.

Speaking on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, during a briefing at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, indicated that the task force recommends phased return of students to classrooms.

Aliyu stated: “For educational institutions which include daycare, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. Educational institutions should begin the process of working towards potentially reopening within this phase.

“However, we strongly recommend that states conduct risk assessment to ensure all schools are at a level of compliance and create a monitoring mechanism to assess, create, and monitor this level of preparedness.

“Meanwhile, all daycares and educational institutions are to remain closed to in-classes until this level of risk is assessed. And if there will be opening of schools, it must be staged and preferably carried out in phases to ensure that this does not pose a risk to the general public and in particular to vulnerable groups that might end up getting infected by students going back home",He said.

COVID-19:Schools To Resume with Staggered Timetables In Lagos State

     Lagos State primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions will be using staggered timetables and different teaching practices to meet the COVID-19 protocols as directed by the state government. The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had announced that tertiary institutions would resume September 14, with primary and secondary schools tentatively reopening September 21. Commenting on the development, the vice-chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun on Monday, indicated that students of the university would resume in batches from September. COVID-19:FGN Announces Resumption Of Int'l Flights From August,29

        The Nigeria minister of aviation on Monday said that int'l flights will resume August, 29. He announced this at the media briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. The country’s airspace was shut to non-essential flights in March in a move to control the spread of the coronavirus disease.  Domestic flights resumed in July with many people also clamouring for the resumption of international flights.         The sum of N1.5bn was spent as COVID-19 relief fund for staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC , Kemebradikumo Pondei, Acting Managing Director of the commission, said. Pondei revealed this at the investigative hearing on the N40bn corruption allegation against the commission. COVID-19:WHO Urges Safety As African Airlines Resume Flights

                     The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for caution as African airlines resume operations in various countries. The WHO stressed that strict measures should be observed to prevent surges in Corona virus infections. The organisation asked governments to ensure airlines collect the information of passengers travelling and follow up with them to prevent outbreaks. The WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr. Matshidiso Moeti indicated air travel was important for the economy but the current situation still requires stringent measures to stem the spread of Covid-19.
