COVID-19:Lagos State Education Ministry Disowns School Calendar Out

The Lagos State Ministry of Education has distanced itself from an academic calendar stating school reopening in the state.

The ministry’s Education Quality Assurance, OEQA, unit called on inhabitants of the state to disregard the resumption time table circulating on social media.

The purported 2020/2021 academic calendar, indicates that the first term of the session would start September 21, 2020 and end December 18, 2020.

The academic calendar also indicated that January 11, 2021 and May 3, 2021, as the commencement dates for the second term.

Reacting, the Public Affairs Officer, OEQA, Mr. Emmanuel Olaniran, stated that the timetable did not emanate from the ministry.

A statement by Olaniran reads: “The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology enjoins all stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the details of the academic calendar.

“Full academic programme should commence on the first day of each term. All public holidays are to be observed as may be directed by Federal/State government. All public and private schools are to adhere strictly to the school calendar.”

“Please be informed that the academic calendar above did not emanate from the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA). Kindly disregard.”

Recall that the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had Saturday announced dates for resumption of schools, amid COVID-19 outbreak .

COVID-19:Kogi,Osun States Announce School Resumption Dates

       Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, has announced that schools in the State will fully resume September 14, 2020.This includes all primary and secondary schools,as well as tertiary institutions. This announcement came after the one made by the Lagos State G overnor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu,who ordered that all Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State should resume by 14th of September, 2020, and that primary and secondary schools should resume on 21st of the same month.      President Muhammadu Buhari has directed state governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to enforce the compulsory wearing of face masks in public places nationwide. This was announced by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task force on COVID-19. Boss Mustapha was addressing journalists during Thursday’s PTF briefing. COVID-19:FGN reopens doors for schools running international curriculum

               The federal government of Nigeria -FGN- has has given schools using international curriculum the go-ahead to continue third term in order to complete their school session and write their exams online. This is part of measures aim at easing the lockdown imposed in the country to keep the spread of corona virus pandemic under control. Any school willing to resume must be cleared and given a go-ahead by their State Government.      Russia will start large-scale provision of the coronavirus vaccine in September, Health Ministers Mikhail Murashko stated on Monday. “The vaccines will be supplied first and foremost to health care workers and teachers,” Murashko disclosed in comments carried by state news agency TASS.
