COVID-19:FGN Says Any School Caught Violating Safety Protocols As They Resume Will be shut down

As some states are about to  resume school, the Federal Government of Nigeria said normal procedures should be followed.

Any school willing to resume must be cleared and given a go-ahead by their State Government.

In the PTF meeting which was held yesterday, September 14th, the minister  of state for education Chukwuemaka Nwajiuba stated that the Ministry of education would shut down any  school that violates covid-19 protocols.

Any school that plans to resume must first make sure all covid 19 containment measures are put in place for safe reopening for their student. They  must be cleared for resumption after thoroughly examining them. That is the main protocol.

In this light, it is illegal for any school to resume without approval from constituted authorities.

The safety of everyone, especially the children should be a number one priority. It is wrong for an institution to resume when it does not have the capacity to curtail corona virus infection spread within the school environment.

Schools Reopening:Ogun State Grants Automatic Promotion To All Students

      The Ogun  state government,Nigeria, has announced that all students had been given automatic promotion to the next class, including automatic enrollment for primary 6 students in public primary schools into JSS1 of public secondary schools.  New students who are resuming for the first time after the nationwide closure in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will join students in SS3 who are now writing the West African School Certificate Examination. The students will be joining in their new classes for the first term of 2020/2021 academic session. Meanwhile, early Child Care Development and Education classes, comprising pupils of 3-5 years, will not resume yet in public schools until the next phase of schools’ reopening. COVID-19:Lagos Government To Promote Students Using Continuous Assessment

     The Lagos State Government has said it will promote students in state-owned schools to the next classes based on their continuous assessments performance. The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, revealed this at interview on Channels Television on Thursday. Adefisayo also indicated that there was still no definite date for the full reopening of schools. “(For) the reopening (of schools), we are working with the Federal Government.               The United Nations has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure that safety protocols against the spread of COVID-19 are in place before full reopening of schools.
